Hey Diddle Diddle – A Tribute to Michael Sadler (Friday, June 2 Release Event)

Post-Release Update: The response to this beer has been overwhelming. While we still have the beer available on tap, the bottles sold out in under 90 minutes. Here are some of the better articles about everything: USAToday plus isportsweb had two articles here and here
– 5pm: Tickets to purchase up to two bottles of Hey Diddle Diddle will begin to be handed out to the public.  Only two bottles per person may be purchased.  Receiving a ticket only reserves your place in line, and does not guarantee the purchase of bottles.  Less than 300 bottles of Hey Diddle Diddle will be available in the public sale, so this is an extremely limited release.
– 6pm: Karen Sadler and Adam Glaser will talk about Mike Sadler and the making of the beer.
– After the speeches: Bottles will begin to be sold based on ticket numbers.

Come join us for a special event in the taproom from 5-9pm on, Friday, June 2, when we release Hey Diddle Diddle – a craft beer made in honor of Michael Sadler, the nationally-known punter from Michigan State University who was killed in a tragic car accident last July.  Mike was a gifted All-American punter, but also broke national academic records (he was the first four-time Academic All-American in MSU history) while demonstrating outstanding character and sense of humor.  Major programs, awards, and tributes are being created to keep his unique legacy alive.

Since Mike liked to experiment with homebrewing, it seemed perfect to create a beer reflecting the personality of Mike for an event benefiting The Michael Sadler Foundation.  “Hey Diddle Diddle”, the name of a trick play/fake punt that Mike ran to huge accolades on national TV during Michigan State’s Rose Bowl season, is a wheat ale inspired by some of his favorite creations.  Brewed with oranges and apricots, and finished with a touch of Belgian yeast and roses, Hey Diddle Diddle recalls fond memories of a great person and Spartan.  Raise a pint and lay down your roses in memory of Michael.

The beer release party will start at 5pm, and will feature a few words from brewer Adam Glaser, Michael’s mother Karen, and more.  Chances are there will be some special guests that night as well.  Jagged Mountain is donating $1 from every Hey Diddle Diddle pint sold to The Michael Sadler Foundation (not just on June 2, but until it runs out!).

Here are some photos from the great brew day with Karen, Katie (Karen’s daughter / Michael’s sister), and Mark Porteous from Colorado Spartans (the MSU Rocky Mountain Alumni Club)!
